Wildlife
Events, a First for Limpopo
2004/06/21 - 16:13
The Limpopo Tourism and Parks
Board (LTPB) will host a Wildlife Conference
and Game Auction in July, aimed at promoting
Limpopo as a wildlife destination.
The event aims also to create awareness of
the advantages of wildlife beneficiation, to
establish a forum for cooperative wildlife
management, to encourage career development
in the wildlife industry, and to introduce
the occasion as an annual event.
MEC for Finance and Economic Development
Thaba Mufamadi will officiate at the opening
ceremony preceding the Wildlife Conference
on Friday 16 July, while the Game Auction
will follow on Saturday 17 July.
A large variety of game species, including
impala, kudu, gemsbok, wildebeest, giraffe,
buffalo and zebra, will come under the
auctioneer's hammer.
Game farmers and breeders, wildlife
rehabilitation centres, government
departments, parastatals, financial and
educational institutions, motor dealers,
outdoor retailers, and eco-product owners
have been invited to participate as
exhibitors.
He expressed the hope that this event, as
well as Limpopo's hosting of the country's
World Tourism Day celebrations on 27
September, would enhance the province's
international status in the fields of
tourism and wildlife management.
